New York Fashion Week Part 1
Instead of blogging about all the looks at the end of NYFW like a sane person would, I have decided to blog 4 days into fashion week because:
1. My 'fashion week' folder is filling up fast
2. If I don't cut NYFW down in half, the post will become morbidly obese
3. I am finding excuses to avoid having to study.
Gary Graham: The props look amazing, everything has a runaway-to-the-circus-ey feel. The shose are also delish.
Erin Fetherston: Erin has grown up this season- she moved from clouds last year, to poofy nutcracker-dresses last season, to a sophisticated Japanese inspired collection this time round. I've seen heaps of complaints about the headpieces (see-through witches hats?) but I kinda like them.
Cynthia Steffe: Everything about this reminds me of summer. I think it may just be me, but the blue frilly dresses remind me of the beach, some of the pieces remind me of lazy summer days in fields of grass, the colourful yellow and pink dresses remind me of popsicles, and lastly the silvery drapey dresses remind me of clear summer night skies. LOL I THINK IT'S JUST ME AND MAYBE I'M HALLUCINATING, but the whole collection FEELS LIKE SUMMER.
Helmut Lang: amazing as per usual, hoorah for drapey asymmetric shoulders and strange abstract prints!
Herve Leger: YUM-MY. Bodycon dresses galore, the details are AMAZING. Find somewhere to view closeups of the fabric, no seriously it looks so good.
Jason Wu: a crazy kaleidoscope of polkadots, poofy tulip skirts and the occasional hot pink. That dress there- second row, right. The skirt looks like the fairy floss skirt I wore a few weeks ago!
Prabal Gurung: Very crisp and architectural but kind of soft in a way. I dig those giant bows.
Vena Cava: YES THAT DRESS ON THE RIGHT HAS SAFETY PINS. Amazing, safety pins for a vest. I'm am totally going to make a safety pin vest as soon as my exams finish.
Closeup:
Vivienne Tam: the motif was butterflies- it was very well done. You'd think sticking to a motif would be unwise since butterflies make people think of 'PINK, GLITTER, BARBIE'. But Vivienne Tam did well- every piece has a butterfly somewhere or other- some have really abstract prints, some have butterfly-reminiscent silhouettes. It was all very pretty.
