Marie Antoinette

I was writing an essay on the film 'Marie Antoinette', one thing led to another, I found these photos and thought they were pretty amazing:

Chrome Boots for Sale

I'm parting ways with these babies so I can get money to buy better-fitting ones. LOL yeah, seriously. They were unfortunately too large when I bought them, so I finally made the careful adult decision to sell them and go buy another pair in a smaller size. Valentino Couture Fall 2010

Nothing's like waking up to the fresh smell of new couture shows to examine. Except I've been pretty disappointed this time- Dior was better than expected I guess, but that's only comparing to the last few couture shows. Chanel was bad. Armani was underwhelming. And here I was thinking 'okay couture week has officially been ruined, there's Valentino and Elie Saab on the next day- good luck to them saving couture week'. And surprisingly, Valentino did kind of save couture week.

Their past few shows (ever since the actual Valentino retired) have been pretty awry and the new design team pretty much missed the mark every time. But I REALLY REALLY liked this collection. It's like they've been aiming on the dartboard for the past year and a half, and they've finally hit bullseye. One criticism though- I know they're targeting a younger market, but aren't the women who can usually afford these clothes pretty old? I recently watched the documentary 'The Secret World of Haute Couture' (link here, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED) and most of the grand couture-cladded ladies don't seem like the type to buy dresses that would make them look like a peach puff. I, on the other hand, am perfectly fine with resembling a dessert, so more for me! (Not that I can actually afford couture, it just felt appropriate to say that.)

I'm in love with the colour palette and the drop-waist pieces and the excess of bows and that wonderful crinoline cage dress, and last but not least:

OH MY GOD ITS A GLOVE WITH A GIANT BOW ATTACHED TO IT, I know heaps of people have complained that it's tacky and whatnot but I think it's whimsical and quirky and hilarious. Hey you know how it's couture, do they custom-make those gloves to fit your fingers too??
